Have you ever sat down in front of the computer after a long day with the intention of just ‘catching up’ with a few things and then suddenly 2 hours have passed?! If this has NOT happened, but you want it to, then listen up. Follow these easy steps and you too can waste some of that precious time on absolutely nothing.
Step One – Open the browser of your choice. I prefer Google Chrome for various reasons but any browser should work.
The first 4 tabs are what opens automatically. I then open 2 more tabs just to get them loaded and ready to go. These other 2 tabs will be for: http://failbook.failblog.org/ and http://verydemotivational.memebase.com/. On Sunday mornings I add: http://www.postsecret.com/ <— This one is funny/disturbing but a really neat project. Highly recommended and it refreshes every Sunday.
Step Two – Determine what you want to look at/read about and navigate to those websites. Below is how my browser looks at this stage.
I’m now up to 16 tabs. You see, what happens is that I see a headline that interests me and I right-click to open in a new tab and keep scrolling. Once I get to the bottom of the MSNBC page I go to the FOXNews page and start the process over. What normally happens is after reading a page I end up clicking on a link to another article and so on. It can get out of control really fast if you do not pay attention.
Once all the “news” is read it is on to the failbook and demotivationals. These are a nice companion as you can look at one while the other refreshes. Usually only have to view 1 or 2 pages as I am current and it gets pretty obvious when you hit one you read previously. After these I go to the JeepForum and browse the new topics in the CJ board. Occasionally comment, but mostly lurk.
Finally, when all the other tabs are closed, I review the facebook and call it quits for a while.
Now this post is not to brag or anything. I actually get a little upset when I get ‘lost in the tabs” sometimes. God help me if I go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ to get the foreign perspective on things. You could get lost for days there!!!
Have you ever gotten lost on the Internet?? Tell me what parts suck your attention as I am looking for some new paths to travel.
